88 - How to be an author with a family with Adam Dreece

Hello and welcome to the 88th episode of The Spark & The Art creativity podcast. Thank you for subscribing to our weekly podcast, where we alternate between interviews with creative folks from all different career levels and insight and inspiration episodes. All with the intention you’ll get the inspiration you need to get your creative projects started and, more importantly, finished.

I’m your host Tucker and this week is an interview with author Adam Dreece.

Adam is an indie author who is building a following for his series of books which currently number 5 soon to be six. Previous to being an author Adam worked in high in the ranks of corporate IT as a software architect. The way Adam describes the transition from corporate IT to independent publishing is the universe just kept giving him larger and larger nudges until he couldn’t ignore them any more. So less than two years ago he started writing his book series. Yep two years 4 novels with another on the way.

You could think that he just locks himself in his basement and talks to nobody for months until he emerges with matted hair and finished manuscript but you’d be wrong. Family is incredibly important to him and he’s changed the way he works to ensure that family comes first. We also talk about being over-organized and what he changed once he recognized it was hindering his creativity.

We also talk about how after 25 years of writing as a hobby all the skills he developed as a writer and all the skill from the corporate world are now combining to allow him to really propel himself into this new work. And this new work isn't just writing it’s building an audience, a business and a legacy.

This episode is full of awesome and generous insights. I’m sure you will enjoy today’s chat with Adam Dreece.
