82 - Trust The Process and The Process is Crazy with Betsy Bauer

Hello and welcome to the 82nd episode of The Spark & The Art creativity podcast. Thank you for subscribing to our weekly podcast, where we alternate between interviews with creative folks from all different career levels and insight and inspiration episodes. All with the intention you’ll get the inspiration you need to get your creative projects started and, more importantly, finished.

I’m your host Tucker and this week is an interview with Betsy Bauer. Betsy is a visual development artist working at Paramount which basically means that everything you see in an animated movie needs to be created by someone. From the dirt on the floor to the frying pan in the kitchen to the kitchen itself someone has to design it and that’s what Betsy does for a day job. Outside of work does children’s books and other projects and we talk about her recent project, a fun colouring book about cats dressed as super heroes. We also talk about her work at Google creating Google doodles and how her getting the job all started with a retweet.

I really enjoyed this one and I’m sure you will too. So get out your tea or what ever you happen to be drinking I used to drink chocolate milk and Pepsi, it was so delicious. I don’t drink Pepsi anymore so I haven’t had it in a while … right, that was an odd aside. Get out whatever you want to drink and enjoy today’s chat with Betsy Bauer.

I hope you enjoyed this peek into the more corporate world of design. If you know someone who’s looking for a path to follow with their illustration skills maybe visual development at a video game or animation studio is something they’d be interested in. If you could share this episode with them that would be great. I mean it would be great for me because then the show gets shared around but who knows it may be great for your friend too. The easiest way to share is to send the short url TheSparkAndTheArt.com/82

I’m thinking of putting together a private group of creatives on Facebook or somewhere like that. If you are interested in being part of, or helping to build, a supportive community of creatives from all disciplines sharing and collaborating their work let me know via twitter @SparkArtPodcast I really like doing these podcasts but I’d love to meet all of you in more than just my inboxes.

Thanks for listening and remember: you won’t get the art without the work and you won’t do the work without the spark.
