80 - Design as a Trade with Aaron Draplin

Hello and welcome to the 80th episode of The Spark & The Art creativity podcast. Thank you for subscribing to our weekly podcast, where we alternate between interviews with creative folks from all different career levels and insight and inspiration episodes. All with the intention you’ll get the inspiration you need to get your creative projects started and, more importantly, finished.

I’m your host Tucker and this week is an interview with designer Aaron Draplin.

Aaron loves life and loves his work. From the daily activities of cleaning the house to the technical process of creating a logo or book design. He’s proud of his family and gives himself to everyone. That caring and pride shows in his work and you can hear it in our chat today.

We talk about why he’s a designer and not an artist, the skill of the production designer and knowing the value of your own work. We also talk about why, even though music is very important in his life, he didn’t pursue music as a way of making a living. He mentions a lot of his, old and new, favourite bands and you can find links to all the bands mentioned in the show notes at TheSparkAndTheArt.com/80

I hope you’re ready to laugh and be inspired as we go through todays’ entirely enjoyable conversation with Aaron Draplin.

I hope you enjoyed this chat with Aaron. Was there something that struck a chord with you? Whether you agreed with it or it pissed you off like Aaron assumed he did. Let me know on twitter @sparkartpodcast and as always you can leave a voicemail at 1-877-966-4886 - leave your name web address and your question and I’ll answer it on the show. I also accept animal impressions there so feel free to just call up and quack like a duck if you want.

Thanks for everyone who has left ratings and reviews it really helps the show. I don’t have one to read this week because the app I use to look at reviews from the iTunes stores around the world is broken and I’m waiting for an update. If you’d like to help the show by leaving an honest rating and review you can head to TheSparkAndTheArt.com/iTunes and it will take you right to the show page. If you haven’t subscribed in iTunes yet you can do that as well and you’ll be able to get the episodes as soon as they are released without having to wait for me to tweet it or something. Cause I’m not the best at that sort of thing so you may just miss it.

Thanks for listening and remember: you won’t get the art without the work and you won’t do the work without the spark.
