107 - Creating comics with Scott Kowalchuk

Hello and welcome to the The Spark & The Art creativity podcast. Thank you for subscribing to our weekly podcast, where we alternate between interviews with creative folks from all different career levels and insight and inspiration episodes. All with the intention you’ll get what you need to get your creative projects started and, more importantly, finished.

I’m your host Tucker and this week is an interview with comic artist and illustrator Scott Kowalchuk. In today's chat we talk about a lot of things including where he started and what he did to pitch his very first comic to the comic publisher image comics. It wasn't just a simple idea with a few sketches it was finished books. We also talk about the reason he is being much more calculated about the publishers he does approach and being very honest with himself about the projects he's choosing in the future.

It's also the random first edition of The Spark & The Art Book Club. So, if you decide to read the book that Scott recommends then let me know and we can talk about it. 'Cause I already read it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

So let's get to it. Here it is my chat with Scott Kowalchuk.

Do you know someone who's interested in becoming a comics book creator? Please share this episode with them. I can only hope it will give them a little insight into what to expect out there in the comics world. The easiest way to share it is send them the short url TheSparkAndTheArt.com/107 it's the perfect size for tweeting or texting.  The hardest was is to create a fully illustrated graphic novel transcription of the interview and send a printed copy to your friend in the mail.

As always get me in twitter @sparkartpodcast And if you haven't yet please leave an honest rating and review for the show in iTunes. Use the Shortcut thesparkandrheart.com/iTunes and it'll take you right to the show page.

Lastly, if you decide to read the Bruce Campbell autobiography If Chins Could Kill let me know and if we get enough people interested we'll do a book group discussion on Blab or Twitch or something and we can all talk about it together.

Thanks for listening and remember: you won’t get the art without the work and you won’t do the work without the spark.
